Safe Transhipment

Due to smaller vessels having greater pitch and roll in swell than larger displacement vessels, transhipment (or lightering) at sea increases the risk of equipment damage and personnel safety (particularly during crew transfers) at sea. For these reasons, transhipment has been either avoided for safety reasons, or restricted to increasingly inefficient in-shore locations where sea conditions are calm.

National Ports’ system for safe transhipment in open-ocean conditions materially changes the size, volume, and speed of transfers at sea.

National Ports’ proprietary transfer system facilitates:

  • Safe transfer of personnel, cargo & equipment in heavy seas
  • Sub-sea construction & installation
  • Remote (at sea) Inspection, Repair & Maintenance (IMR)
